Meet Lento, the Quiet Branch. He is a brown-throated three-toed sloth, and he is real. His kind lives in the rainforests of Central America and South America. His kind's arms are 37 to 45 centimeters (15 to 18 inches) long, longer than his legs, and his kind weighs 3.7 to 6 kilograms (8 to 13 pounds), about as heavy as a large cat. His face is round and pale, with a dark stripe running back through each eye like a little mask, and his mouth curves up as if he is smiling. He has three long hook-claws on every paw. His coat is long, shaggy and grey-brown, and in the cracks of his hair grows green algae, which gives it a green tint. In one study of 74 sloths, about three out of four had it. Small moths live in the fur too. He eats leaves. On an average day he moves about 40 meters (130 feet), less than half a football field. Scientists think the green may help a sloth hide, and nobody has tested that yet. His call is a high Ah-EEE. His family calls his way of going TIME-GLIDE. This is the Explorer version from the Fenekie Explorer Club, a small team exploring the natural world together, one wild animal every week: Lento painted the way he is painted in the book, sized to read from across the playground, on an everyday blank at an everyday price. 1% of everything we make goes back to the wild. Five Lento stickers on one sheet. He hangs from a branch with his small smile. He curls up asleep in the fork of a branch. He hooks his claws into the ground and pulls himself along. He tips back his head for his Ah-EEE call. And the fifth is his round gold collector badge.
